Dining Room Rug Hunt

Our dining room updates are so close to being completed!

There are only a few items left to cross off the to do list and then I can share our (almost year long) process with you. One pretty big item left on that list is a dining room rug.

Now, I’ve never really been for or against rugs under a dining room table. Personally, I feel like it depends on the space. The reason I’m on the hunt for one in my own dining room is for a few reasons.

First, it’s a large space and until we find the perfect sideboard/hutch/buffet (another item on the list), there isn’t much definition.

Secondly, I hate the flooring. The homeowners before us replace whatever was there before with a maple laminate. While it’s a good looking floor in perfect condition, it’s just too blonde for my taste.

Last but not least, I’d like to bring in some more color. Honestly, I’ve never really shopped for a rug other than to serve an immediate need; i.e. door mat, entryway, bathroom, etc. I think you see where I am going with this.

Needless to say, this has not been an easy road so far. I like a lot and I hate a lot. I’ve come to the realization that this may be one of the last things I buy for the room. It might have to be at this rate.

I am having a ton of fun searching for a dining room rug and I wanted to share with you what I’m considering (so far). The following rugs are my top runners (no pun intended).

Real quick before I start revealing what I like about each rug, remember that this is going to be a large scale rug, around 8’x10′, so it’s definitely going to have a presence in the room.

{Artemis Rug}

I really love the distressed look of this rug and the hints of orange.

{Carlton Navy Indoor/Outdoor}

I was drawn to the navy blue in this rug. We will be receiving some Spode blue plates from my in laws and I’d like to tie in the navy blue into the dining room.

{Caroline Blue/Ivory}

Again, I love the navy blue but this one also incorporates more of the aqua blue that I adore. It’s imperative that this rug have pattern and be on the darker end since we our children are still small. I’ll be damned if I’m trying to scrub a rug every few days.

{Loretta Cream}

Ahh, my front runner. I love this rug. It’s distressed and incorporates all of the colors that are in the dining room. My only slight hesitation, is that it is on a cream back drop. However, with the heavy pattern, it just might work.

{Distressed Medallion}

The simplest rug in the running and the only one I have seen in person, is the outdoor rug at Target. It definitely holds a place in my heart with it’s simplicity, however, again with the cream back drop. It just makes me so nervous!

{Aerial Decorative Plumes}

I would consider this a safe bet for my dining room rug. It’s a bit softer and more understated, but maintains the look and feel I am going for.

Honestly, I think they are all beautiful and that any one of them would work beautifully as our dining room rug. Now that I seem to have narrowed down my choices, it’ll be showing hubby and seeing what he thinks and waiting to finish a few other items. Perhaps that will help me make my final choice.
